Frequently Asked Questions
May I bring my pet?
Small house pets may be allowed. Restrictions vary according to location of residence. Special considerations are made for service animals. Is there a Residents' Association? Yes, the Village Association provides opportunities for all residents to have access to information regarding community services and programs. Are volunteer opportunities available? The volunteer program at Abernethy Laurels utilizes the talents of more than 100 active volunteers from our own residents as well as community members. A list of opportunities and needs is available through our Director of Resident Services and we encourage residents to get involved in volunteer services on campus as well as in the community. What kind of overnight accommodations are available for guests? Guest rooms are available by reservation. There is a small charge for reserving guest rooms. What is a Residency Fee? The Residency Fee is an entrance fee utilized to help maintain the day to day operation of the community. It is the foundation for the Residency Agreement, a relationship agreement between the resident and Abernethy Laurels. The agreement establishes the resident as part of the Abernethy Laurels community, and makes provisions for level of care changes and health care needs. Are any of the fees refundable? The Residency Fee is partially refundable to the resident or their estate upon separation from Abernethy Laurels on a graduated scale, based on the initial contract. Are fees fixed or can they change? All fees are reviewed annually by the Board of Directors of United Church Homes and Services. Adjustments are made effective at the beginning of each fiscal year, with 30 days notice given to all residents. |
