Over 7,000 Meals Delivered

In the beginning of March, the CDC recommended communal spaces in retirement communities such as dining venues close to ensure the safety of residents. When the dining venues of Lake Prince Woods were closed per these guidelines, the dining and plant operations teams immediately rose to the challenge and shifted their focus to delivering meals. The Bistro, offering quick service café-style dining, remained open for takeout only, while meals from the main dining room are delivered right to the resident’s door. Judy Dildy, Director of Dining Services, says the response from the residents has been very positive. The dining and plant operations teams worked together to deliver meals to residents.
“We usually get anywhere from 70 to 120 delivery orders per night, 150 meals a day for our long term care areas and additional meals for our team members.” shared Dildy. “Residents call in the morning to place their lunch and dinner orders and the plant operations department helps us with delivery.” In addition to meals, snacks and other holiday treats are brought right to resident’s doors as well. Once a month, Chef Dan Kovelkoski offers a special Chef’s Table meal, inspired by cuisines from different cultures. “It takes a team effort from the whole staff,” said Dildy. “The residents are incredibly appreciative; they are constantly calling to thank us, even though the way we do things have changed, the quality and care we put into our meals remains.”
